Welcome to St. James Lutheran Church
Welcome to the St. James Lutheran Church website! I am the Rev. Paula Smith, and I serve as the Pastor. I came to St. James in December of 2014 as a Synodically Authorized Minister, serving as a Deacon while working to further my education and eventually serve a congregation as a Minister of Word and Sacrament. I was called to serve St. James to do that very thing, at the completion of my studies, and was ordained on September 23, 2018. I totally enjoy working with the congregation and watching people grow in their spirituality and love for their God and one another!
We may be a small congregation, but we are a busy one, so if you’re looking for a place that will keep you busy serving your community, come and join us!
When we’re not in the middle of a pandemic, we serve free meals to the community on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Our Community Center houses Appalachian Helping Hands, which is a community-wide clothing ministry, serving our area, as well as anyone who hears about the ministry. We also send clothing to Haiti, so we go well beyond our small community in serving.
The Second Harvest Food truck stops here on the 4th Thursday of each month that we may help those who are short on groceries for the month. Our congregation also helps supplement those groceries at Thanksgiving and Christmas with the gift of some type of meat.
The Appalachian Auditorium at St. James is gearing back up to present concerts of all types to the community. The Auditorium has been refurbished from its school days and is a quaint venue for those who would like a night out!
Everything mentioned above cannot happen without the hard work and prayers of our members. If you are new to the community, or you’ve been here a while and are looking for a change of scenery in your faith life, come and worship with us at 10:30 a.m. some Sunday morning! You will be greeted warmly!
God’s Blessings are Yours This Day!
