My name is Paula Smith and I am the Minister here at St. James Lutheran Church.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Bluffton College (now University) in Bluffton, Ohio, and a Masters in Church Music from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.
My children are grown with lives of their own. My daughter, Eliza Wertenberger, is a hospital chaplain currently living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My son, Ryan Wertenberger, is an attorney living in Powell, TN. I have one grand dog, a black lab that goes by the name of Thunder, and I love him very much!
Before I came to St. James, I was an Associate in Ministry at Grace Lutheran in Oak Ridge, Tennessee where I served as the Minister of Music. I started at Grace as the youth leader in 2003, became commissioned as an AIM in 2005 and was there until being pulled by the call into ordained ministry, coming to St. James in December of 2014.
Currently, I am finishing up classes that will lead to ordination, as I fulfill duties and responsibilities in ministering and sharing the good news with the wonderful folks at St. James.
I invite you to come and join us any Sunday, or follow the activities that are listed on our website and enter into the fun of worship and fellowship with others in our congregation. We may be a small church, but we are mighty as well as welcoming! Come! Give us a try!
